Project Grants
Opens 16 Mar 2026 09:00 (AEDT)
Deadline 24 Apr 2026 18:00 (AEST)
Description

Aims: MS Australia project grants provide funding for projects focusing on generating new insights that inform our understanding, treatment or management of MS. These projects require fully developed proposals for research in the MS field, and demonstrate direct relevance to MS and the expected benefits for people with MS.

Funding Details: Grants-in-aid are awarded for up to three years, with a range of $50,000-200,000 per year and an overall budget of $400,000. This grant may cover salaries and/or project costs and consumables.

Eligibility: Applicants must be either an Australian/New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident. Research should be conducted at an Australian institute.

Deadline: Applications close 11:59 PM AEST 24 April 2026.

Important Note: Please also consider applying for grants from the NHMRC and NMSS. You must submit separate applications to other funding bodies, as there is no automatic routing of applications between funding bodies.

Trish MS Research Foundation: The Trish MS Research Foundation will be funding up to $400,000 for a Translational MS Research Project Grant, that will be awarded to an Australian researcher undertaking high-quality translational MS research which demonstrates clear evidence of translational research capacity. Applications should be submitted through MS Australia’s Project Grants application process by selecting a tick-box indicating that they wish to be considered for the Trish Translational MS Research Project Grant. Applicants will then be directed to answer a small number of additional questions.

Successful applicants: Successful applicants will be awarded either an MS Australia Project Grant or Trish MS Research Foundation Project Grant, but not both. The awarding body will be determined jointly by MS Australia and the Trish MS Research Foundation Board committees.
